MIDLANDS | Terry Holian
AT A MEETING held at the Leek Health Club run by H. Hocknell to decide on a Midlands Organiser, I was fortunate enough to be selected as the S.A.W.L. representative for the Midlands. I hope to cover both lifting and N.A.B.B.A. contests and include both in my notes.
On March 28th there will be a social and get-together at my club, the Harworth Health Club, Harworth, Doncaster, for S.A.W.L. attempts at records, diplomas or medals. Wives and girl friends will be welcome. Details from me at 26 Devonshire Road, Harworth, Doncaster. There will be a colour film and refreshments. Admission 1/-.
On February 20th we held the S.A.W.L. Notts County Olympic Championships and N.A.B.B.A. Notts Physique Contest. There was some fine lifting, particularly from guest lifter T. Norris, of London, elder son of Bill Norris, his final attempt on the Clean and Jerk of 280lb. was one of the highlights of the meeting. Results

11.9 200 200 280 680 On extra attempts Terry made 210lb. The both on the Press and Snatch. "Open Novice Physique Contest" had an entry of 15 and was won by D. Lowe, of a 20-year-old with plenty of Notential. D. Roberts, also of Notts, was second, and E. Smith, of Doncaster, 34, was third.
The eagerly awaited Strength Set Match between J. Bell, Notts, D. Adams, Doncaster, and J. Towlson, Notts, was rather marred by the fact that D. Adams had a strained back, and J. Towlson was suffering from flu, but both sportingly agreed to lift so that J. Bell could have a chance to try and beat Adrian Heryer's British 14st. Bench Press record and Strength Set total of 1,045lb.
After a 160lb. Curl he took 390lb. for his final attempt on the Bench Press to beat the previous record by 8 lb.
He then had to make a 500lb. Squat on his last attempt to give him a new British record total of 1,050lb.
